Chinatown Restaurant Owner Indicted for Stealing More Than $750,000 in Sales Tax Revenue

New York State Commissioner of Taxation and Finance Robert L. Megna today announced that Manhattan District Attorney Robert Morgenthau has indicted the owner of Cantoon Garden (Kwok Ming Chan, 57, of 56-52 190th Street, Fresh Meadows, NY) for stealing $763,650 in sales tax that was collected but not remitted to the State of New York.  With interest and penalties, Chan owes a total tax liability of more than $1.9 million.  In addition, Kwok Ming Chan faces up to 15 years in state prison if found guilty of Grand Larceny in the 2nd Degree.
