PrompTax

Program Description

Chapter 61 of the Laws of 1989 established the PrompTax program to collect the electronic filing and payment of Payroll Withholding Taxes held in trust for New York State and local governments by New York State Withholding Tax agents. An amendment to this legislation requires taxpayers collecting $100,000 or more annually in Payroll Withholding Taxes to participate in the program.

The PrompTax Withholding Tax program offers many benefits to participants, including;

The elimination of paper checks and NYS-1 paper filings;

Web filing is now available to taxpayers registered as ACH Debit filers. This option has benefits not offered with other payment options: a 24/7 view to your payment history, and the ability to schedule (warehouse) transactions;

Also available is our Secure Communication program allowing you to communicate with us via the web.

Who is Required to Participate?

Withholding Tax filers that were required to withhold a total of $100,000 or more during the previous year are required to participate in the PrompTax program. Filers not meeting the criteria may apply to participate voluntarily in the program.

If you have questions regarding filing requirements or you need forms, call our Business Tax Information Center.
